New Yorkers Bet a Record $154.9 Million on Super Bowl LIX

New York bettors wagered a record $154.9 million on Super Bowl LIX through the state's nine licensed mobile sportsbooks, according to figures reported after the game. Operators kept about $47.4 million in gross gaming revenue — a hold of roughly 30%, well above the typical monthly average.

The figure made Super Bowl LIX one of the single largest betting events in New York history, reflecting both the market's scale and the heavy promotional pushes books run around the championship.

Why the Hold Was So High

Single-game events like the Super Bowl draw a flood of casual, parlay-heavy and prop wagers, which generally carry a higher built-in margin for the sportsbook than straight bets. That pushes the operators' hold above their normal range for the day.

At New York's 51% tax rate, the state collected roughly $24 million from Super Bowl LIX wagering alone.
